We did not use a lawyer, as our situation was pretty straightforward (no past marriages, children, convictions, etc). I cannot recommend the website visajourney.com enough. We couldn’t have done it without their wiki and forums. It’s not hard, it’s just very precise and fairly expensive. Its like filing your taxes times ten, with a lot more at stake.
